Artist Ha Tri Hieu kicks off AIA Vietnam Eye satellite exhibitions

Hanoi, 19 November 2016 – As a part of AIA Vietnam Eye project to celebrate Vietnamese contemporary art, the first satellite exhibition kicks off today at nest by AIA in Hanoi. This is the opening for a series of events which will combine artist presentations and educational workshops for children and families. There will be one artist introduced in each of the 10 satellite exhibitions, which will take place at nest by AIA, the flagship customer and event space of AIA in Vietnam.

The first satellite exhibition is curated by Tran Luong and will showcase the artwork of Ha Tri Hieu, both of them are members of Hanoi’s ‘Gang of Five’, the first group of young artists to gain international renown after Vietnam opened up in the late 1980s. Ha Tri Hieu termless inspiration comes from the rural life in Vietnam, his poetic, expressionist paintings highlight the beauty and simplicity of Vietnamese countryside. Born in Hanoi in 1959, he is deeply impressed by his childhood memories and remembrances about the sceneries and people around.

Following the exhibition in the morning, nest by AIA will also host an art education session for children in the afternoon. Faciliated by teachers from Apollo English Center, it is an English language workshop for children, using art and creativity as a medium for connecting.

Wayne Besant, CEO of AIA Vietnam said: “At AIA, we believe that arts and culture can enrich people’s lives, making us become more imaginative, innovative and better connected to each other. AIA wants to facilitate “dialogue” between artists and wider audience and promote art appreciation among Vietnamese. Therefore, complementing AIA Vietnam Eye book and main exhibtion, the satelitte exhibitions and educational workshops at nest by AIA will bring the project closer to the children, families and general public in Vietnam.

This satellite exhibition runs in parallel with the main AIA Vietnam Eye Exhibition at Casa Italia, Hanoi. Within the project, the publication titled Vietnam Eye: Contemporary Vietnamese Art featuring 56 artists was also published.

AIA Vietnam Eye is the eighth project in the Global Eye Programme, which was established in 2009 by David and Serenella Ciclitira in collaboration with the Saatchi Gallery in order to nurture artistic talent across Asia’s emerging art scenes. AIA Vietnam Eye is sponsored by AIA and supported by the Government of Vietnam, the Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, and the British Ambassador to Vietnam.
